With the aim of building capacities in the field of quality of nursing care provided to Covid 19 patients, the General Authority of Damascus Hospital today organized a scientific forum in which a number of health workers in the field of nursing from 7 hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health, Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Directorate of Health Professions and the Central Nursing School participated in the lecture hall of the hospital.

The themes of the forum focused on introducing the Coronavirus, methods of transmission and prevention of infection, classification and management of patients infected with it, disinfection and sterilization of robotic respirators, nursing management of a mechanical ventilation patient, and nursing documentation.

The themes of the forum included shedding light on the role of the social nursing profession and providing psychological support to a Corona patient, as well as introducing the mechanism of dealing with personal condoms used when dealing with Corona patients in medical isolation centers.

The forum comes within the activities of the campaign to strengthen protection measures for health workers launched by the Ministry of Health recently and raise the hospitals' readiness to deal with the possibility of a new wave of Corona virus, according to Dr. Samer Al-Khader, Director of the Damascus Hospital, indicating that the hospital organizes scientific activities to increase the expertise of medical and nursing staff and raise their skills at work. And provide quality services to patients.

Regarding the classification and management of Corona patients, the chest disease specialist at Damascus Hospital, Dr.Alaa Naqrash, indicated that patients are sorted according to the degree of infection and the severity of symptoms that are determined after conducting a number of investigations in order to prescribe the appropriate treatment measure in accordance with the protocols approved by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health, which are updated regularly My period according to the latest developments in scientific studies and research.

The head of the nursing department at the hospital, Lama Al-Fayoumi, noted the need to emphasize the commitment of health workers to wear the personal protection methods used when dealing with Corona patients in isolation departments and to dispose of medical waste and clothing after leaving these departments in an optimal manner to ensure infection control, especially towards hospital workers or visitors.

Caring for a pregnant woman with Corona requires special measures, such as focusing on the psychological support side, to eliminate her concerns about her health and the health of the fetus, according to the nurse at Al-Zahrawi Hospital for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Damascus, Mahasin Issa, stressing the importance of the role of nursing in ensuring the safety of patients and applying treatment according to the plan established by the specialist doctor.

For his part, the consultant for the quality management system at Al-Bassel Center for Cardiac Surgery, Nurse Saleh Al-Saleh, drew attention to the importance of the forum to raise the capabilities and skills of nursing staff to protect themselves while dealing with Corona patients, whether in hospital or home isolation centers, to reach the highest level in the nursing service for patients and communicate with their families, pointing to the importance of the role Nursing cadres in the community, where their role is no longer limited to administering the drugs prescribed by the doctor, but rather has a role in spreading awareness in the patient's family and educating the community.
