A man known to the intelligence services and armed with a knife was arrested this Thursday morning in Lyon.
Spotted near a tram station in the 2nd arrondissement of the city, the individual brandished a knife, dressed in a djellaba and a military jacket.
After several calls to 17 from residents, the police arrived on the scene and arrested the threatening individual, at the corner of rue des Remparts d'Ainay and rue Victor Hugo according to

According to our information, he is an Afghan national born in 1994, known to the intelligence services for radical Islamism, and whose arrest apparently avoided a new tragedy.

Pierre Oliver, mayor of the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, thanked the police via Twitter for their intervention having "helped to avoid a new tragedy".
The arrested man was taken into custody and investigations are underway.
