Adrien Quatennens: "National unity does not cancel controversies"

2020-10-29T19:42:16.810Z

Adrien Quatennens, national coordinator of rebellious France, calls for being relentless against Islamic terrorism but warns

After the conflict in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine and the attack in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) which left three dead on Thursday, October 29 at the Notre-Dame de l'Assomption basilica, the deputy of the North Adrien Quatennens, national coordinator of insubordinate France (LFI) wants more resources, in terms of men and materials, to be used to apply existing laws and fight terrorism.

And explains why he voted against the new containment measures decided in the face of the worsening of the Covid-19 epidemic.

At the time of the return to confinement, and while a new attack in Nice has just occurred in Nice, what judgment do you have on the action of the executive?

ADRIEN QUATENNENS.

After the attack probably committed by an Islamist terrorist at the Notre-Dame basilica in Nice, rebellious France reaffirms its affection and solidarity with all the Catholics of France, targeted in the practice of their faith.

Our country is put to the test.

We are suffering from an accumulation of heavy shocks: attacks, health crisis, explosion of poverty, effects of climate change.

Each of us must summon the best of ourselves.

We have to face it.

Unity, firmness and determination are essential.

The challenges ahead are immense, but let's be sure: the happy days will return.

Are you appealing to national union?

To national unity.

It does not cancel political controversies.

This unity is a duty in the face of the adversary.

One of the political objectives theorized by Islamist terrorists is the division of the national community.

They want a cleavage to take place, in reaction to the attacks, between us, on the one hand, Muslims, whom they hope to rally to their fanatic cause, and, on the other, the rest of the population, who would suspect all of the former without distinction.

We must absolutely refuse this cleavage, otherwise we would give them the point.

I am very angry with the members of the government who, like Jean-Michel Blanquer, have broken this unity to open political polemics as absurd as they are dangerous, even though the national homage to Samuel Paty had not yet been paid.

Especially since, among the givers of lessons in secularism, many are less rigorous than us.

They would be well advised to sweep in front of their door.

What do you criticize in the fight against

terrorism?

Globalizing overbids reduce our efficiency.

Faced with terrorism, you have to be methodical, precise.

How to explain that growing threats on social networks were not the subject of actions or that an Islamist S, followed by the intelligence services, was able to enter a school in the Republic to parley with his principal in order to put pressure on a teacher?

In such a situation, the word of the Head of State and of the government weighs heavily.

Anything that maintains the confusion between terrorism, political Islamism in the face of which we must be implacable, and the great mass of our fellow citizens of Muslim faith wounded by these attacks committed in the name of the God in whom they believe, is to be proscribed.

This confusion would suit the terrorists.

The law announced should not be a law of suspects.

On the other hand, if it is a question of strengthening secularism, rebellious France will make proposals which will make it possible to verify the consistency of each.

Some right-wing elected officials advocate war legislation.

And you ?

Can we take stock of the cascade of anti-terrorism laws passed in recent years?

For what efficiency?

Even more than new laws, we need substantial additional human and material resources to apply existing laws.

At La France insoumise, we have long demanded a reinvestment in human investigative techniques that have proven their worth, such as infiltration.

You voted against the new containment measures.

Why ?

At the start of the health crisis, we multiplied concrete proposals. They were all swept away by the government and its majority. Emmanuel Macron decides alone. The point we are at is the result of the government's lack of planning and the destruction of the public hospital. Seven thousand four hundred beds have been closed over the past two years. How to assess the effectiveness of the partial measures that have been announced? Mr. Macron tells us that the epidemic is more serious than in the spring, but deduces less strong measures. On this basis, the Prime Minister requests the vote of Parliament, without our being able to modify anything. It is therefore a vote of confidence in the government. We cannot grant it to him. This is the reason why the rebellious deputies voted in one block, against, in the Assembly. However, we will respect sanitary discipline. We owe it to health workers.
