The

Chamber of Senators is in

session to approve a series of projects that, due to their complexity and length, will be debated for several hours, such as the Food Labeling Law, the resolution of the debts of the provinces with Anses and the extension of the Law of Biofuels.

Before starting the deliberations, Senator Lucila Crexell requested the withdrawal of three bills that she presented with Martín Lousteau to modify the Public Ministry law.

The initiatives propose a series of changes, including shortening the administration of the tax attorney and the national defender to five or six years, but keeping the majority of two-thirds of the senators present for their official appointment.

The first to ask for the floor was the senator and head of the Justice and Criminal Affairs Commission, Oscar Parrilli, who rejected the proposal.

"Our proposal is that the withdrawal is not accepted and that it continue to be discussed," he rejected.

"We are aware that the Executive Branch, through the council of experts, will give an opinion on the best way to appoint, remove and on the permanence of the Attorney. We are going to hope that the Executive Branch will have the advice of the experts and then We will decide. It does not mean that we are going to do what they say, "added Parrilli.

Followed by, Senator Ernesto Martínez questioned the position of the Frente de Todos by noting that "there is no precedent whatsoever on a project that was withdrawn by the author and that receives treatment both in the commission and the campus."

"That does not exist in 150 years of the Senate of the Nation," warned the Cordovan.

With the next speaker, Martín Doñate, a striking situation occurred because the head of the Chamber Cristina Fernández de Kirchner interrupted him to ask if any of the senators had the microphone open.

"

No, it seems to me that I have a reverse gear and it is making noise, but it is happening

", answered Doñate and caused the laughter of the Vice President and several of the legislators who participate in the mixed session.

Finally, the ruling party asserted its majority and rejected by 41 votes to 27 the proposal to withdraw the Crexell and Lousteau projects.

Following, Cristina Kirchner left the premises because the senators began to pay tribute to former President Néstor Kirchner on the tenth anniversary of his death.

The first to speak was Parrilli, who recalled his years as a Néstor Kirchner official and, on the verge of tears, affirmed: "We simply want to say that we did not let him go, because Néstor continues to be with us."

"Nestor Kirchner left in each Argentine province the strong memory of his management and the change that it produced in the sense of public investment, and starting with the provinces that need it most, such as Formosa," added José Mayans.

The head of the Together for Change bloc Luis Naidenoff also joined the tribute and said: "We cannot demand from society what we are not willing to demonstrate not with words but with deeds. And how we belong to a space that truly believes and he has a democratic vocation, and that he is also convinced that facts are worth more than words, these recognitions also have to do to advance in a process of greater democratic civilization from the leadership itself. "

Then, the bill on food labeling will be debated, which establishes the placement of a series of front seals on food packages high in sodium, sugars, saturated fat, total fat and calories.

Legislators of the ruling party and the opposition of the province of Tucumán have already announced that they will vote against the project, because they believe that it

conspires against the sugar industry

in their province.

Next, the bill that declares the research, development, manufacture and acquisition of vaccines against the new coronavirus to be of public interest.

The initiative authorizes the Government to purchase the vaccines and sign agreements where the jurisdiction of foreign courts can be maintained, clauses required in some cases by the laboratories.

That file could also include some dissidents within the Together for Change bloc, manifested during the last meeting of the Health Commission.

On Friday, meanwhile, the four-year extension of the regime that promotes the production, promotion and use of biofuels will be debated.

That same day, among other files, the senators will debate the draft Law for the Defense of Assets of the Sustainability Guarantee Fund (FGS) of the Integrated Social Security System, which contemplates the refinancing of the debts that the provinces have with the National Administration of Social Security (Anses).

The ruling party wants the initiative to be approved without changes, so that it becomes law that same day, since it is a claim made by the governors.
