The corona virus in the district is spreading faster and faster.

With 33 new cases, the district office reported on Wednesday the second highest value since the beginning of the pandemic.

The district now receives support from the armed forces and the police in tracking contacts and infection routes.

District - The fight against the coronavirus and its spread is waged in many fields.

For District Administrator Stefan Frey, in addition to all hygiene measures, “the most important thing is to keep track of the contacts”.

He said that yesterday morning in the Starnberg Schlossberghalle, when he welcomed more than 25 men and women who will support the health department in this work in the future.

18 of them are members of the Bundeswehr Information Technology School.

Six more are police officers during the inspections in Gauting, Herrsching and Starnberg.

There are also officials from other departments.

The district office had asked the competent authorities of the armed forces and police headquarters of Upper Bavaria North for support.

"Unfortunately we can no longer do it alone," said Frey.

The task of women and men: Identify, call, clarify and quarantine people who have tested positive (so-called index cases) and their personal environment from family, company, clubs, friends (so-called contact persons 1).

The effort is gigantic.

Since the beginning of the year there have been 1108 index cases in the district alone.

Each of them should have between 15 and 20 close contacts on average.

This quickly reaches a number of 20,000 people with whom the health department has to contact.

55 soldiers and police officers are available

During the lockdown there was already support from teachers, students and staff from other departments.

The government of Upper Bavaria has now created ten full-time positions at the district office for this work.

In addition, according to information from district office spokeswoman Barbara Beck, job interviews are currently underway for a further twelve positions.

"We are happy about every help we get," says Ursula Flemisch, who coordinates these contact tracing teams (CTT) in the health department.

When the soldiers and police officers have completed their two-day training course, around 55 people are available for work in several teams.

Work is done in shifts, seven days a week, mostly in the home office.

In the General-Fellgiebel-Kaserne in Pöcking, the Bundeswehr has reopened rooms in an empty building.

Verena Röhrig-Wöllner is one of those in the health department who take care of identifying the contact person.

The reactions of those called are "mostly very good," she says in an interview with Starnberg Merkur.

“Most of them are grateful that they were contacted.” If anything, incomprehension would mostly come from the ranks of the contact persons who are not infected themselves but still have to stay at home.

The case of FC Bayern player Serge Gnabry caused a lot of talk.

He was briefly in quarantine after a positive test, but was allowed to leave it again after the test result was demonstrably incorrect.

For example, parents of children who would have to stay at home even after two negative tests are not okay, says Röhrig-Wöllner and shows understanding.

She pays great praise to the pandemic officers in the schools.

The cooperation works very well.

The location

“The situation is serious, but not hopeless,” Stefan Frey said that morning.

Just a few hours later, when the new figures were available, it became clear how serious the situation is.

The district office reported 33 more corona cases - the second highest value since the beginning of the pandemic.

The cases come from Andechs (1), Starnberg (7), Krailling (5), Gilching (8), Gauting (5), Inning (1), Feldafing (1), Pöcking (2), Weßling (1) and Tutzing (1).

There is also a case that is only assigned to the district for statistical reasons.

There is a high probability that 15 cases were infected in the district, three in Munich, one in South Tyrol and one in Reit im Winkl.

But there is also a returnee from Tajikistan and a Romanian who is currently visiting his daughter.

In the other cases, the place and time of infection are unclear.

The case from Weßling has a particular impact.

It is a resident of the communal accommodation there.

Almost 130 people are now in quarantine.

The security service commissioned by the government of Upper Bavaria will monitor compliance around the clock, a spokesman said on request.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the district has recorded 1,108 corona cases.

948 of them are no longer in quarantine, which means 140 active cases.

The number of people who are in quarantine has also increased.

There are currently 976. According to the official value of the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL), the seven-day incidence is 74.63 (as of Wednesday, 8 a.m.).

If you add all the reported cases, the value is 92.92.

Hotspot on the east bank

A corona hotspot, which has hardly any impact on the current number of infections in the district, is located in the Allmannshauser Castle at the Christian youth organization Word of Life (WdL).

Until Wednesday a week ago, 74 young people from Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Bremen were guests there as part of a youth camp.

Despite a sophisticated hygiene concept, the virus has found its way to the hermetically sealed area.

Yesterday at noon there were 33 infections that originated in the castle.

As WdL managing director Marco Seeba says, it is about 22 young people, ten employees and one family member.

“One of the employees lives in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district, another in the Starnberg district.” This is why the hotspot is hardly noticeable, at least statistically.

All children and adolescents who come to WdL leisure time must have a negative corona test.

The employees are regularly tested every ten days.

In the course of such an employee test, it came out that someone was sick with Covid-19.

“We couldn't locate patient 0,” says Seeba (see page 5).

Citizens' Meetings

Due to the sudden increase in the number of cases, District Administrator Frey yesterday gave the mayors the option to cancel citizens' meetings planned for this year.

“Protection against infection comes first,” he tells Starnberg Merkur.

“I don't see any harm to democracy here either.” On Tuesday, the district office insisted on compliance with the statutory assemblies.

However, it makes sense to publish accountability reports online, for example.
