Donald Trump: What remains of him - even if he has to go

2020-10-29T23:41:48.502Z

The US president has damaged the political system so massively that it can hardly be repaired. Read the SPIEGEL cover story here.

Donald Trump Jr doesn't want to spoil his mood.

Not from the dark clouds that are gathering over his head that afternoon, and not from the miserable polls that stick to his father, the president, like an old chewing gum.

The junior stands on a pedestal on the outskirts of State College, Pennsylvania, and speaks of the enthusiasm that is now supposedly meeting him everywhere.

"This is like 2016 on testosterone," he claims as his gaze sweeps across a half-empty parking lot and the cleared Pennsylvania cornfields.

"A hundred people are waiting outside, I hope we can get them in," says Don Jr. He would only have to turn his head a little to the left to see that there are only a few stragglers waiting at the security checkpoint.

The 42-year-old president's son cannot even believe what he will announce in the next half hour: that his father is expecting a furious victory on November 3rd and that the Democrat Joe Biden is not allowed to become president simply because he is up on the payroll of Chinese businessmen.

Stories like that - if they were true - ought to get the FBI going straight away.
