Former Ashkelon mayor Itamar Shimoni has asked the court for an order to stop broadcasting material from his bribery trial on the "Makor" program.

The investigator Itai Rom's investigation into the affair is scheduled to air in the coming days, but a hearing will be held in the Tel Aviv District Court on Sunday regarding a request to ban publication.

The indictment against Shimoni was filed in 2017.

According to the facts of the indictment, two women who worked under him demanded large sums of money from him as compensation for allegedly sexually harming them.

Under the compensation agreement, Shimoni was forced to pay more than a million shekels.

The money, it was alleged, was raised by contractors for actions related to his public office.

The case regarding sexual offenses was closed for lack of evidence, but last year Shimoni was convicted of one of the bribery charges, as well as breach of trust and tax offenses.

He is currently awaiting sentencing.

During the trial, Shimoni's defense attorneys and the Tax and Economics Prosecutor's Office agreed that in transcripts of Shimoni's police investigations, which would be submitted to the court, certain passages would be blacked out for reasons of individual privacy.

Judge Limor Margolin-Yechidi, who has since retired, said at the time that if the issue of publishing those parts arose in the future, she would positively consider imposing a restraining order on them.

Shimoni on Wednesday filed a request to the Tel Aviv District Court by Sharon Nahari, indicating that he was approached by a researcher for the program "source", and that the program reached all police investigations without blackening.

He asked the court to impose an order prohibiting the same information "Needless to say, the privacy of the individual and the great damage he will cause to the defendant, his family and children, all as an act of yellow gossip and without any connection to the trial itself," the petition said
