While teleworking is once again de rigueur to fight against the spread of Covid-19, it's time to check your Internet connection at home and possibly change your subscription to opt for optical fiber.
But be careful, in this case, it is also better to be patient.
On its website, Orange displays the color: the deadline to obtain the fiber is three weeks.
A "high" hypothesis, tempers a spokesperson for the brand, but which clearly reflects the differences between the regions.
In the big cities, the fiber can be installed in 7 to 10 days on average, but the delays increase for the countryside.
All operators are in the same boat.
Free management estimates that there is an average of 5 to 12 days of waiting to get an appointment with a technician, but on its site, the operator shows a delay of 20 days.
Which is also a way to warn consumers: the installation will not happen overnight!
At Bouygues telecoms, it takes "at least ten days" between the request and the appointment and two weeks on average at SFR.
But beware, with the new measures, installation times may again lengthen.
Ten times faster
In fact, since the spring, requests for connection to fiber have skyrocketed.
More than 8 million French households have opted for a fiber subscription, out of a total of 20.3 million "connectable outlets", that is to say eligible subscribers, if they so request.
The performance displayed by optical fiber, which offers speeds up to ten times higher than those of ADSL, is a strong argument, while a good fixed connection remains the safest way to have good access to the Internet. Web and therefore telework, study remotely ... not to mention playing online or watching films and series.
