Over 77 million Americans have already voted, including 51 million by mail.

And the vote by correspondence represents the great unknown about the 2020 elections. At least another 40 million ballots sent by the voters with their preferences have not yet reached their destination and the risk is that they cannot be counted in the end.

The rules in fact vary from state to state.

In Pennsylvania, votes can continue to be counted by mail up to three days after Election Day, the important thing is that the ballots have been mailed by November 3.

In North Carolina, mail-order votes received within nine days of election day may be counted.

The fear that many ballots cannot be counted pushes the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, to launch an appeal to the Americans when there are now only 5 days left for the elections. "Don't mail the cards anymore, they won't arrive in time," he says.
