"Hallucinating": in Paris, parking remains chargeable during the reconfinement

2020-10-30T19:50:49.013Z

Contrary to what it had practiced during the first confinement, the City of Paris maintains the payment for surface parking.

This is a notable difference from the first confinement.

Contrary to what it had practiced for nearly two months, between March 16 and May 11, the City of Paris decided to maintain paid parking on the 130,000 surface spaces in the capital, whether for "visitor" motorists or Parisians.

The former will therefore have to continue to pay 4 euros an hour in the eleven districts of the center and 2.40 euros in those of the periphery.

And holders of the resident card pay 9 euros per week to park in their neighborhood.

"We are going to remove half of the parking spaces in Paris", announces David Belliard

A decision that is already bitching the main stakeholders.

Like Arnaud, a resident of the 16th arrondissement.

"I find it amazing and inflated on the part of the town hall of Paris, rebels this engineer.

When the state asks us to stay at home and to favor teleworking, we will have to go out to supply the parking meters which continue to run.

The City should have played the game, I think it is using the situation to make a profit.

"Maintaining business activities and travel"

But at the Town Hall, it is argued that "the situation is not the same as in March because there is a maintenance of activities and business trips".

And we want to remember that "health professionals who have to travel already benefit from free parking, it will obviously be maintained".

Last March, the town hall decided on free access "to allow all staff mobilized in the management of the crisis to be able to park near their place of work".

Flexibilities for Pro Mobile cardholders?

The municipality nevertheless provides for some relaxations to the rule, especially for professionals in Paris and its inner suburbs who have subscribed to the Pro Mobile card.

"Parisian professionals being severely affected by the measures taken to stem the health crisis, we are currently studying the possibility of free parking for holders of the Pro Mobile card" announces David Belliard, deputy (EELV) to transport.

A tolerance will also be observed for holders of the resident card who can park for more than seven consecutive days in the same parking space, which is usually prohibited.
