The "Landscape" project - the electric light rail in northern Israel, will be launched in the coming weeks.

The line that will connect Haifa to Nazareth is a large and complex infrastructure project, the first of its kind in Israel.

It is managed by Trans-Israel as the executive arm of the Ministry of Transportation.

According to the planners, the project will be a catalyst for the northern urban development trend in improving accessibility to city centers, and will connect the business, cultural, commercial and tourism centers to encourage economic growth.

The decision to build the train was made following a re-examination of its feasibility with "Matronit" buses.

The cost of the project is estimated at NIS 7 billion.

This week, Trans-Israel published the names of the ten companies that won the tender to carry out works on the railway's and intercity route, as part of the "Infrared 1" phase of the project.

The company announced that the work will begin before the end of the year, and will include relocation and renewal of infrastructure, construction of retaining walls, earthworks and paving.

The first work centers will be concentrated in Kiryat Ata and the Galilee landscape, and will include field training work for a maintenance complex in Kiryat Ata, and the construction of parked parking lots in the cities.

A catalyst for the urban development trend of the north.

Simulation of Har Yonah station in the Galilee landscape

The planned light rail line is about 41 kilometers long, and is expected to include 20 stations, between the Gulf Central Station in Haifa, via Kiryat Ata and along Road 79 near the settlements of Shefar'am, Reina, Mashhad and Bir al-Maksur, from where it will enter the Galilee landscape and end in Nazareth.

The planned frequency of travel for peak times is between four and ten minutes, and it is expected that about one hundred thousand passengers will use the train as daily.

The planned travel speed in the intercity section will reach one hundred km / h, with the expected travel time to cross the line being about 50 minutes. The new commuter system will combine urban and intercity train technology, thus enabling continuous travel in different sections without having to replace the shuttle system.

The train is similar to a light rail in its external characteristics and user-friendly, but it is faster than it and able to move in combination with an urban street, and in small radii and can even travel on the infrastructure of a heavy train under certain conditions.

It is also capable of moving at high slopes of up to 8%, thus reducing the environmental impact of infrastructure construction, caused by earthworks and the construction of bridges and tunnels.

The planned operating system of the light rail is based on electricity supplied from the IEC substations, which will supply the voltage for its operation.

"The train brings with it a message to the people of the north," he said. "It will enable a fast and direct connection between the Haifa metropolitan area and the Lower Galilee, and will significantly increase the number of users of public transportation.

" To abolish the division between the first Israel and the second Israel - and to connect Israel by correcting and doing distributive and transport justice, "Minister Miri Regev repeated, referring to the ambitious transport project." I say bluntly - we will not be able to invest all resources in Gush Dan. "

Light rail simulation within highway lanes

According to the minister, in addition to NIS 60 billion on light rail and about NIS 600 million on bicycle paths - Dan Bikes, which are already under construction, there are other transportation shortcomings in the periphery that need to be addressed.

"The state has a commitment to dispersing employment, dispersing the population and providing transportation tools for accessing and connecting the periphery to the center of the country."

She added that "the 'scenic' light rail, from Haifa to Nazareth, is part of the complete revolution that aims to connect Israel, bring the inhabitants of the periphery closer together and strengthen the metropolitan areas."

According to Regev, "the train will strengthen the localities along the route and in the area, make the employment centers accessible, expand the opportunities for education and recreation, and improve the quality of life of the residents."

The road from the Jezreel Valley to the Sharon will be shortened: the valley train will extend its route

In the background, the minister's statements also reached the residents of the Jezreel Valley: the valley train, which is currently completing its route in Atlit, will continue to Binyamina station and shorten the travel time.

Afula Mayor Avi Alkabetz says that the Ministry of Transportation has informed him that the trains will start operating on the new route, already in two weeks, after the professionals in the Ministry of Transportation conducted a computerized pilot for him.

"Great news for the residents."

In Afula, with 56,000 residents, they are satisfied with the valley train that began operating about 3 years ago, and Alkabetz admits on their behalf that it does provide excellent service to those traveling to Haifa.

But since the line was inaugurated, its residents traveling to the Sharon area have complained that they are required to travel by 3 trains.

In the last two years, since Alkabetz was elected, he has repeatedly urged the ministers of transportation, Israel Katz Bezalel Smutrich and Miri Regev, that the valley train resembles the Karmiel train.

The mayor of Afula says that Regev's move, which was granted at his request, is a great news for his residents.

"This is a great news for the residents of Afula in particular and the valleys in general," greeted Alkabetz.
