Ibrahim Avisavi, a 21-year-old from Tunisia, is the terrorist who killed three people yesterday (Friday) in a stabbing attack at the Notre Dame Church in the French city of Nice.

State media reported that police yesterday arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of aiding Avisawi.

Avisavi arrived in Italy on September 20 via the island of Lampedusa, located about 200 kilometers south of Sicily and about 160 km east of Tunisia, which is a transit point for many African refugees making their way to Europe. In southeastern Italy, he received an order ordering him to leave the country.According to sources close to the investigation, he arrived in France on October 9, apparently via a multi-hired trip, arriving in Nice only yesterday morning.

According to the French authorities, the police officers who examined the terrorist after taking over did not find any identification documents on him, but he did carry a document he had received from the Red Cross in Italy in which his name was written.

Since arriving in France, Avisavi, who was seriously injured after being shot 14 times by police, has not applied for political asylum in the country.

Following the attack, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he would increase the number of soldiers stationed in public places such as churches and schools from 3,000 to 7,000.

In addition, he announced the raising of the country's security alert to the highest level.

Gerald Dermanin, France's interior minister, told French radio station RTL that there could be further attacks on state land due to "France's fight against radical Islam. We are at war with an enemy inside and out."

Shortly after the attack in Nice, a man was shot dead by police in the southern French city of Avignon after threatening passers-by with a knife.

Saudi media reported that a security guard at the French consulate in the city of Jeddah, which is considered an important economic center in the country, was attacked with a sharp object.

The attacker was arrested by local police.

The incident comes less than a month after a teacher in Paris was beheaded after showing his students cartoons of the Prophet of Islam Muhammad, which is considered sacrilege among Muslims.

In response to the incident, Macron said the values of freedom of expression should be defended - a statement that has caused outrage in the Muslim world and demonstrations against it in France and around the Muslim world.
