In Chile, a 24-year-old policeman died this Friday after being hit by a bullet in an apparent ambush.
As reported by the institution in a statement, the incident occurred in Padre Las Casas, in the region of La Araucanía, in the south of the country, when a group of officials carried out preventive patrols on a route to verify the procedure of incendiary barricades deployed by protesters. .

They indicated that, in a surprising way, they were ambushed by a group of approximately 10 hooded people who fired direct shots with firearms.
Second corporal Eugenio Nain Caniumil, who was driving the vehicle, was hit in the left costal area and was immediately transferred to the regional hospital in Temuco where he later died.
The young carabinero belonged to the Mapuche ethnic group, according to the National Indigenous Development Corporation (CONADI) in a statement.
The second corporal had been in service for 5 years and had two sons.
In statements to the press, Interior Minister Víctor Pérez condemned the incident and extended his condolences to Nain Caniumil's family.
He expressed the government's willingness to investigate and find the culprits in order to bring them to justice.
"Only dialogue, only talking among ourselves, only agreeing between us is the only possible way," he said.
