A magnitude 7.0 earthquake shook the Aegean Sea, shaking Greece.
The quake was also felt well off the coast of western Turkey in the Izmir area, where a magnitude 6.6 quake was measured.
The epicenter was reported 17 miles (17 kilometers) off the coast of Izmir province, 16 kilometers (16 miles) below the ground, according to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Center.
The quake was felt well in both Athens and Istanbul.
Buildings collapsed in Turkey as a result.
No casualties have been reported so far.
Earthquakes are not unusual in Turkey.
In 1999, an earthquake in the Izmir area claimed the lives of some 17,000 people.
