The Chinese Foreign Ministry affirmed that some senior US officials should refrain from fabricating lies and causing undermining of relations between China and the United States.
And US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently issued a statement regarding the designation of the National Association for Peaceful Unification of China a "foreign mission" and threatened the possibility of Washington stopping participation in the memorandum of understanding between the governments of the two countries regarding the establishment of a forum for rulers between the United States and China to strengthen cooperation, claiming that the "Chinese People's Friendship Association" with Foreign countries "sought to influence the American states and local leaders."
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wen said in a statement carried by Xinhua that Pompeo's remarks were "political manipulation based on ideological bias," noting that they contradict the desire of the Chinese and American peoples to enhance dialogue and exchanges.
Wang added that the National Association for Peaceful Reunification of China is a locally registered social organization founded by the Chinese in the United States and committed to achieving the peaceful reunification of the motherland and promoting friendship between China and the United States, stressing that "there is no reason for the United States to restrict and discriminate against it."
The spokesman stressed the role of the Chinese People's Friendship Association with foreign countries in promoting friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries including the United States.
Regarding the MOU, Wang said the United States first proposed it in 2011 and signed it by both sides ... and as an important platform for China-US exchange, the forum has been successfully held five times, and local governments in the two countries have actively participated in it and achieved fruitful results.
The spokesman warned Washington that, by stopping its unilateral participation in the memorandum of understanding, it "undermines and demolishes the bridge between the two peoples, and such reactionary behavior is condemned to rejection by the two peoples and history."
"We urge Pompeo and his ilk to stop fabricating lies to undermine China-US relations and stop continuing down the wrong path," he said.
