The country, which is experiencing an upsurge in the epidemic, recorded some 91,290 new cases between Wednesday and Thursday, according to a statement made at 8:30 p.m. local by AFP of university figures, updated continuously.
On the same day, 1,021 people died from Covid-19 in the United States, by far the most affected country in the world in terms of death toll.
The United States recorded a total of 228,625 deaths Thursday evening since the start of the pandemic, and 8.94 million cases.
On Saturday, the country had already recorded a record of contaminations in one day, with 88,973 cases.
