Dozens of Druze men abducted the body of Sheikh Sheikh Abu Zain al-Din Hassan Halabi, a religious leader from Majdal Shams, from Ziv Hospital in Safed, last night (Thursday).

The Druze, all residents of Majdal Shams, confronted the hospital security guards and police officers who were at the scene of the incident and left the hospital with the body of the sheikh, who died today from corona disease, in their hands.

After the abduction of the body, she was brought to the locality in the Golan Heights, where the funeral was held with the participation of thousands of residents of the locality.

This is a serious incident as Majdal Shams is under closure after a severe outbreak of the corona plague in its territory and the entire locality was defined by the Ministry of Health as a red locality.

Sheikh Hassan Halabi passed away today about two hours after he was brought to the hospital. He arrived in critical condition around 10:00 a.m. and was pronounced dead around 12:00. Since then, discussions have begun between senior Ministry of Health officials and the community's spiritual leader and they have agreed that the funeral will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. with a limited attendance according to Ministry of Health guidelines. The agreement was apparently not accepted among Majdal Shams residents.
