“It can be tempting, and even easy, to analyze the impact of the result of the US election for any other country, in this case Spain, in purely accounting terms.
What would be the consequences in terms of trade relations or the defense budget?
As tempting and easy as it sounds, it would be a mistake.
Or it would at least underestimate the political and moral impact of a re-election of Donald Trump on the democratic structure of Spain.
“In recent years, this country has seen the legitimization of a political discourse and practices that were simply unacceptable ten years ago.
A rise in populism with methods and words borrowed, sometimes word for word, from the President of the United States.
Several Spanish regional governments rely on the voices of the far right.
Their spokespersons are following in Trump's footsteps.
