In the Buenos Aires prisons another day of extreme tension was experienced this Saturday, which included riots in various prison units.

But after 7:00 p.m., the provincial government authorities reached an agreement with the representatives of the prisoners to rehabilitate the face-to-face visits that were suspended to avoid contagion by the coronavirus.

"The Buenos Aires Penitentiary Service communicates that on Saturday, November 14, visits to the penitentiary units of the Province will be enabled, in strict compliance with the health security protocols for the preservation of public health," they reported.

That is the decision that was made after intense efforts to put an end to the violent protests that began in several of the prison facilities.

"This agreement was reached through the operation of the dialogue tables that were formed in the prisons of the Province and in which authorities from the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, representatives of the Judiciary and Human Rights organizations participated," they highlighted from the government of Axel Kicillof.

Visits by relatives of inmates were suspended in a voluntary agreement between authorities and inmates on March 12 of this year, in accordance with national and provincial regulations that established Preventive and Mandatory Social Isolation to prevent the spread of COVID 19 in prisons. .

Due to the situation, the prisoners decided to start violent protests in several of the penitentiary facilities in the province, which allowed to recall the uprisings at the beginning of the year to demand releases due to the coronavirus.

To put an end to the riots, representatives of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the Penitentiary Service and the Ministry of Health of the Province began a negotiation with referents of the detainees to develop a biosecurity protocol.

As they highlighted, the priority was that this manual of procedures be adapted "to the confinement context to face the preventive requirements of the pandemic from the resumption of visits."

There, a schedule was even defined that will be implemented in the coming days and that establishes the order of the pavilions and the places that will be used for the meeting with relatives and friends.

It was resolved that visitors may not be under 18 or over 60 and that pregnant women or other people who are part of the risk group for the coronavirus may not enter the penal unit.

In the facilities, the visiting areas will be prepared so that they have all the necessary sanitary measures to avoid contagion.

And if any of the visitors show symptoms of the disease, they will not be able to enter the establishment.
