Occupied Jerusalem - SANA

Palestinian prisoner Maher Al-Akhras continues his open-ended hunger strike for the 97th day in a row, to protest the ongoing crimes of the Israeli occupation against Palestinian prisoners in his detention centers, amid severe danger to his life.

The media advisor to the Prisoners' Affairs and Editors Authority, Hassan Abed Rabbo, told Wafa that the health condition of the silent prisoner is deteriorating rapidly and that he suffers from severe stress and heart pain and is subjected to convulsions throughout his body and from confusion in vision and difficulty in speaking, indicating that the occupation authorities refuse to release him as well. Refuses to transfer him to a hospital in the West Bank.

Abd Rabbo pointed out that the commission is communicating with international organizations specialized in prisoners' affairs and with world parliaments to pressure the occupation authorities to release him and save his life.

For his part, European Union spokesman Peter Stano said that the Union is closely following the health condition of the dumb prisoner and calls on "Israel" to fully respect international humanitarian law, abide by the Fourth Geneva Convention, and preserve the health of Al-Akhras.

The occupation forces arrested the al-Akhras prisoner on the 27th of last July, and he was previously arrested several times, the first in 1989 for a period of 7 months and the second in 2004 for two years, then he was re-arrested for the third time in 2009 for a period of 16 months and for the fourth time in 2018 for a period of 11 months.
