The renewed corona lockdown severely restricts leisure activities in November.

There is now an alternative offer in Schliersee: a digital tour of the place.

Schliersee

- Suddenly the voice of Johannes Wegmann can be heard.

All participants in the short walk intuitively turn around to face him.

But the chairman of the Schliersee Touristik Verein stands in silence and looks at his smartphone.

Not he himself explains the history of the Schlierseer Heimatmuseum, but rather its digital counterpart in the app “Schliersee Sights”.

On Friday morning, those involved in the project, led by former councilor Beatrix Seidenfus, gave the official go-ahead for the Leader project.

The smartphone application for the six audio-visual guided walks is now available to download free of charge.

95 percent of the signs on the 70 monuments in Schliersee and Spitzingsee have been installed, announced guest information manager Mathias Schrön, while Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer thanked the initiators for the great commitment.

"That is only possible with people who are fully behind it."

The historical interest lies with Beatrix Seidenfus and himself in the family, said Wegmann.

"Our fathers were involved in the creation of the Schlierseer Chronik for the 1200th anniversary celebration in 1979." With "Sehensiges Schliersee" one has docked with the content quality of that time and created a cultural and intellectual fund on which future generations could build.

The idea for the app arose out of practical observation, reported Seidenfus.

Again and again she found that most people - whether locals or tourists - would carelessly pass by the Schliersee building history.

The market town has so much more to offer than lake and mountains.

Worth seeing Schliersee: six walks of different lengths

In order to make history tangible, Seidenfus worked deeply into the matter.

She compiled background information on the monuments, linked the facts with stories and connected the stations to a network of trails.

The result: six walks with lengths of 1.7 to 9.1 kilometers.

The routes extend from Westenhofen in the north via Fischhausen-Neuhaus in the south up to the alpine pastures in the Spitzing area.

Anyone who has downloaded the app onto their smartphone can view zoomable maps and plan their march.

Either along the given route or according to your own taste.

You don't get lost, says developer Sabrina Gander from Radiotourism.

"As soon as you approach a station, the application uses GPS to determine where you are and plays the relevant content." As well as Gander and Wegmann, the mayor's wife Christine Eham-Schnitzenbaumer can also be heard as the speaker.

But the Schliersee history can also be explored without a smartphone, emphasizes Seidenfus.

A brochure, which is due to appear soon, contains all the important information in brief.

The signs also provide information about the structures.

Anyone who spontaneously decides to use the digital companion can scan the printed QR code and download the app directly.

"Sights worth seeing Schliersee": Leader supports financing

The fact that the audiovisual tours are free is thanks in part to the Leader EU funding program.

This contributed 50 percent of the total costs of around 50,000 euros.

The Schliersee Touristik Verein contributed ten percent of the investment amount as a co-sponsor, the remainder was taken over by the municipality as sponsor of “Sights worth seeing Schliersee”.

While Michael Pelzer, as chairman of the Local Action Group (LAG) Kreisentwicklung Miesbacher Land, can already imagine expanding the project to other communities, Schnitzenbaumer would like the Schlierseer to use it intensively.

“It is often said that we do a lot for tourists and little for the locals.

So I very much hope that the citizens will accept this offer. "

The app

“Schliersee Sights” can now be downloaded from the Google Playstore and the Apple App Store using the search term story2go-schliersee.
