Shipping on the Tegernsee also fits in with the lockdown: the company will cease operations on Monday - one week earlier than planned in the regular timetable.

  • Because of the lockdown, shipping on Tegernsee will also cease operations on Monday

  • Overall, the managing director can look back on a difficult corona season

  • It is unclear whether the ships will make their laps in Advent as planned

Tegernsee

- At the weekend, packing your suitcase is the order of the day in the Tegernsee Valley: As in all other holiday regions, holiday guests have to leave the hotels and pensions due to the new Corona regulation.

Another forced break for tourism.

The Tegernseer Seenschifffahrt takes this as an opportunity to end its season prematurely.

“At the end of Sunday, operations will cease,” explains Michael Grießer, Managing Director of Bayerische Seenschifffahrt.

Grießer: "Are perceived by the people as a destination"

It is a voluntary measure, because shipping as a regular service actually falls under the regulations for local public transport - transporting passengers would therefore still have been permitted.

“We are perceived by the people as a destination,” explains Grießer.

It would be the wrong sign to keep shipping "while all other tourist businesses have to close".

Added to this is the fact that after the new Corona measures have come into force, there are no longer any holiday guests on site and - according to the government - day trips should also be avoided.

“And people who just want to get from A to B can take the bus and are not necessarily dependent on shipping,” adds the managing director.

Tegernsee Schifffahrt looks back on a mixed corona season

The fact that the autumn holidays in an already difficult Corona season for Tegernsee Schifffahrt are now also obsolete should still have a bitter aftertaste.

The big rush for the Schifferl is usually over at this time of year, but in the past many a golden autumn day has still brought good business to the shipping industry, admits Grießer.

Overall, the 2020 season was a very mixed one after operations resumed in June.

You have already noticed that the people were more cautious about boat trips, reports Grießer.

"Even in the summer months we couldn't match the figures from the previous year." One or the other passenger - his gut instinct tells him that - the mask requirement has probably prevented from going on board, says the head of Bavarian shipping.

This weekend - especially on Saturday (October 31st) - there should be fantastic autumn weather at Tegernsee again.

If you take last Sunday as a benchmark, the region could once again face a rush of day trippers.

Stephan Herbst, operations manager at Tegernsee, is still not expecting a crowd for his ships this weekend for the time being.

"We suspect that there is as much going on as last weekend," he says.

But there can be no talk of record days.

"People are more likely to be on the mountain than on the ships - they can better avoid each other there," believes the operations manager.

It is still unclear whether the ships will sail during Advent

When the ships will sail again on the Tegernsee is currently not foreseeable.

It was actually agreed with Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH (TTT) that atmospheric tours would take place on the occasion of the Advent weekends (we reported).

According to the timetable, shipping was also planned for the Christmas holidays.

"In view of the current situation, we have to wait and see how the infection rate develops in November," stresses Grießer.

You can currently only drive on sight.
