Top 14: Agen manager Christophe Laussucq, sacked

2020-11-01T18:51:07.578Z

The manager of Agen was sacked this Sunday the day after the crushing defeat at Bordeaux-Bègles (71-5) of his team, last of the Top 14.

The heaviest setback in the history of the AUS in the Championship.

And the seventh in as many days for the prestigious Lot-et-Garonne club, eight times champion of France (the last in 1988).

That too much for the Agen president, Jean-François Fonteneau.

Who raged.

"As of this day, Christophe Laussucq and Rémi Vaquin are no longer Agen's manager and trainer," the Lot-et-Garonnais leader tweeted Sunday afternoon.

Saturday night after the defeat against UBB, the heaviest in the SUA in its entire history in the league, Mr. Fonteneau had already written on the same social network.

“I am scandalized by the attitude of the players (some) towards UBB.

I think about sanctioning the group financially.

It is unbearable that our partners and supporters support us economically in this anxiety-provoking context and that the group has no respect. "

"

I have nothing to say given the nullity of our service

Invited to comment on this debacle at a press conference, Laussucq said: “I will not answer questions, I have nothing to say given the nullity of our service.

I will not look for excuses, I will not seek to comment on this service except that I am sad for the partners of the club who, again this week, showed their support by saying that they would not ask for a refund .

To the supporters who also had the elegance of this gesture.

I am sad for all the people who support us and I have no comment to make on the void tonight.

Good night".

Christophe Laussucq had not returned to Agen by bus with his players but returned to his home in the Médoc where he is from.

At 47, the former international scrum-half was appointed manager of the SUA in 2019 after six seasons spent as manager at Mont-de-Marsan in Pro D2.

His record at the head of the eight-time French champion club is 5 wins, 1 draws and 18 defeats.

Rémi Vaquin, 37, former 3rd row of the SUA, took charge of the Agen touch at the end of his career in 2017, before rising in rank and taking care of the forwards alongside Laussucq from 2019.
