Today, in its eleventh session of the first ordinary session of the third legislative session, held under the chairmanship of Hammouda Sabbagh, Speaker of the Assembly, the People's Assembly began discussing the government's financial statement on the draft law that includes the state's general budget for the fiscal year 2021.

The appropriations for the draft law of the state budget for the fiscal year 2021 were set at a total amount of 8500 billion Syrian pounds, and the current operations appropriations were estimated at 7,000 billion pounds, while the appropriations for investment operations were estimated at 1500 billion pounds.

The appropriations for salaries, wages and compensation were set at 1018 billion Syrian pounds, social support funds were set at 3500 billion Syrian pounds, the National Fund for Social Aid was 50 billion Syrian pounds, the Agricultural Production Support Fund was 50 billion pounds, the food flour and yeast amounted to 700 billion pounds, and oil derivatives were 2700 billion. Lira and electrical energy at 1800 billion liras.

At the beginning of the session, Minister of Finance Dr. Kinan Yaghi presented a summary of the government's financial statement on the draft state budget law for 2021, indicating that it reflects the general framework of the government's financial plan to finance the development process through the optimal investment of available resources and secure the requirements for reconstruction and production and mitigate the negative effects needed on The standard of living of citizens, especially after the increase in challenges to the national economy.

Minister Yaghi pointed out that among the most important things taken into account in the draft budget for 2021 are mechanisms to stimulate the national economy, restructure public spending, identify available reservoirs to increase revenues, reduce expenditures, maintain state resources, improve the quality of basic services provided to citizens, strengthen the fundamentals of steadfastness, strive to improve the living situation and provide basic goods. And stability of prices and support for small and medium industrial and agricultural enterprises.

In their interventions on the draft budget law and the financial statement, a number of members of the council called for removing the causes that lead to inflation in the state's general budget, and real work to raise the level of salaries and wages, improve living conditions, and immediately meet the needs of citizens.

A number of members called for working on amending the tax system, combating tax evasion, unifying tax laws in one law, re-examining the mechanisms of delivering budgetary support to those who deserve it, considering the possibility of distributing it in cash to citizens, increasing the support provided to the demobilized and the families of the martyrs and the wounded, especially securing housing and employment opportunities for them, and paying more attention to services. Provided health.

Some members believed that the draft budget does not contribute to the trend towards a productive economy in light of the low purchasing power of citizens, asking about the sources of financing the new budget due to the government increasing the current and investment appropriations in it, demanding control of public spending and the implementation of service and economic projects of highest priority.

The session, which was attended by Minister of State for People's Assembly Affairs, Maloul Al-Hussein, was suspended until 12 noon on Monday.
