One dead and several people have been injured
in a shooting in the center of the Austrian capital, Vienna, according to local police, who have not provided further details about what happened at the moment.
The Police have highlighted through their account on the social network Twitter that
"shots have been registered"
in the center of the city, before adding that "there are wounded."
"Stay away from all public spaces or public transportation. Do not share videos or photos," he said.
Minutes earlier, the Police
had reported a "great operation"
in the city center.
Local media have reported that the shooting would have taken place in Schwedenplatz, near a synagogue, although at the moment there is no official confirmation on this point.
The president of the Israeli community in Vienna, Oskar Deutsch, has said that he cannot confirm whether the synagogue has been the target of the attack, before noting that the temple "had been closed for several hours."
"There are no people inside," he stressed, according to the newspaper 'Der Standard'.
For its part, the Interior Ministry has said
that it could be a terrorist attack
, without confirming it for the moment, as reported by the Austrian state news agency, APA.
