The Chinese Foreign Ministry today called on the United States to stop political persecution and oppression of Chinese journalists.
In response to a question about extending visas for Chinese journalists in the United States, ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said during a press conference quoted by Xinhua: “China intends to take all necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese journalists,” calling on the United States: “to immediately abandon its illusions and stop On the political persecution and oppression of Chinese journalists.
The spokesman added that the United States prevented Chinese journalists from practicing their journalistic work during the one-week visa extension period, while some of them did not exceed the three days, which forced them to submit new applications for visa extension immediately.
He explained that the American side had set an unreasonable condition that journalists could not cover news during the period of applying for the visa extension, pointing out that the Chinese side had submitted notes to the US side through diplomatic channels in this regard.
