Confinement: driving schools close but exam inspectors are working

2020-11-02T19:09:01.797Z

By the end of this week, exam inspectors, summoned to continue their activities, will be twiddling their thumbs ... for lack of candidates.

The contradictory measures taken by the government in the context of this second confinement, denounced by many professionals, also affect the sector of learning to drive.

While driving schools must close their doors, driving exams, paid for by officials, are maintained.

The same situation therefore leads to two different decisions, is surprised Bruno Garancher, the head of ECF.

“Both instructors and inspectors work in a car.

The former must cease their activities when the latter can continue to work, ”he said indignantly.

“And it's even more incomprehensible than that.

The instructor is alone with his pupil in a vehicle while at the time of the exam, we go to three, with the inspector in addition, "adds Patrice Bessone of the CNPA who adds:" The difference in treatment between these two branches activities cannot be carried out according to the protocol because the latter is the same for everyone ”.

However, according to some observers, some monitors take some liberties with the sanitary rules.

"We see some who do not even put on the mask with their student in the car", slips an inspector.

On the side of Unsa-saneer, one of the unions of inspectors, we are also surprised by this "double standards".

“Why close the driving schools when we let the taxis continue their activities?” Asks its secretary general, Christophe Nauwelaers.

1350 technically unemployed inspectors

This first absurdity denounced by the actors of the profession leads to another.

By the end of this week, the 1,350 inspectors will be out of work.

"The driving lessons ceasing, there will therefore be no more candidates to take the exams," said Christophe Nauwelaers.

Emmanuel Macron, who wants public services to continue to operate, will not be able to achieve his goal in this sector.

For lack of students prepared and ready for the tests, officials will twiddle their thumbs.

"It's so absurd that several ministries, Beauvau and Bercy, are trying to find a solution with Matignon," says Patrice Bessone.

But if nothing changes, the end of this second confinement will have the same consequences as during the first: a traffic jam of students in driving schools.

This summer the inspectors had also gone to great lengths to offer more places for exams, we recognize among the monitors.

But they also fear the economic consequences of this new forced closure.

"The first confinement where we had already had to draw the curtain was a blow, despite state aid," says Bruno Garancher.

This new halt will further weaken, according to him, this entire professional sector.
