Outside of the World Cup finals, there is hardly any planetary suspense comparable to the US presidential election.
Attention probably disproportionate when one considers that the match ultimately rests on a few thousand voices in Florida, Pennsylvania and half a dozen states that most foreign spectators cannot locate on the map.
But this interest is amply justified with regard to the consequences: the choice of the most powerful man in the world will depend to a large extent on the future of the transatlantic relationship and of the multilateral system, not to mention military alliances, climate or trade policies ... rest of the world - Europe in particular - is playing big in the battle for the White House.
At the end of a corrosive campaign between two camps deaf to the arguments of the other, we would like to be able to breathe by simply declaring:
"May the best win ..."
