The legendary Argentine soccer player Diego Armando Maradona was operated on for a subdural hematoma, his doctor said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The chronic subdural hematoma was successfully evacuated," said Maradona's doctor, Leopoldo Luque.
Diego is awake, he is very well.
Maradona was operated on in a clinic in La Plata, Argentina, where Maradona has been hospitalized since Monday.
The doctor had assured that Maradona was lucid and calm before the procedure, and described the operation as routine, without giving explanations of how the head injury of the former footballer, now technical director of Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, occurred.
