Ankara-Sana
Today, the Turkish regime imposed financial fines on many social media platforms as a new step in the context of tightening the siege on them, and thus withholding them as part of the policy of suppressing freedoms in the country.
And this system announced today that it imposed a fine of 1.1 million euros on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Periscope, under the pretext that it refused to open official representative offices in Ankara.
On July 29, the Turkish regime’s parliament approved a law that would exert more pressure on freedoms in the country by restricting social media networks, and the new legislation requires major social media companies to maintain representative offices in Turkey to deal with complaints about content on their platforms.
According to Turkish media, this law gives the AKP government more powers to regulate and control social media.
