It should be much easier to apply for state financial aid for young parents in the future.
A law passed by the Bundestag makes it possible to apply for a birth certificate, parental allowance and child allowance online in one go.
The aim is to free mothers and fathers from superfluous bureaucracy.
"Applying for child benefit is finally as easy as online banking or online shopping," said Digital State Minister Dorothee Bär (CSU).
However, after the Bundestag, the Bundesrat must also give its consent so that the new rules can come into force at the turn of the year.
The reform provides for a bundling of services and an electronic data exchange between different authorities.
Information about the birth of the child should be automatically forwarded in this way as well as information about the parents' income, on which the amount of the parental allowance then depends.
Up to now it has often been difficult for parents to keep track of things: the application for child benefit must be printed out and sent in writing to the family benefits office.
In some federal states there are online applications for parental allowance, in others not.
The birth of the child must be reported to the registry office, which then issues the birth certificate, which in turn must be presented in order to apply for parental allowance.
This mess should now be ended so that new parents have more time for their offspring
