Demonstrations against US President Donald Trump took place in the cities of New York in the northeast of the United States and Portland in the west, in conjunction with the continuation of the counting of votes in the US presidential election, in which the Republican president is competing with his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.

Media reported that a group of anti-Trump demonstrators organized a demonstration in the American economic capital from Union Square to Washington Square, during which they raised banners calling on the US President and Vice President Mike Pence to leave the White House.

The preliminary results showed Biden winning in New York State, which has 29 votes in the electoral college with 55 percent of the vote.

In Portland, Oregon, protesters burned American flags and marched through the city, chanting protest slogans and carrying assault rifles, amid heightened tension.

Activists gathered outside Portland Federal Court "the center of anti-racism protests last summer" after Trump announced his early election victory despite the continued victory of votes in a number of major states and many of them chanted slogans against Trump and the racism of the US police.

"I heard that Trump is leading the count now ... there will be riots ... when the results are released, it will be crazy," said the leader of the protest march, Tay Ford, told AFP. "It's like choosing between two evils, but honestly we can tolerate Biden."

Another protester said, "We don't like any of the candidates ... he voted shamefully for Biden, but if Trump gets another four years, people will go crazy."

For his part, the FBI warned of the possibility of armed clashes in Portland linked to the elections.

Polling stations have closed all over the United States, as centers in the state of Alaska in the far northwest of the country were the last to close their doors and the counting of votes is still ongoing and the results may not appear until late today in light of the likelihood of the possibility of judicial appeals.

According to the latest results, Biden won 224 votes in the electoral college, which represents 49.81 votes, compared to 213 votes for Trump, which represents 48.58 according to the Associated Press.
