The two Democratic legislators known for their anti-Israel stances, Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Oxio-Cortez, won the election for a seat in the House of Representatives on the night of the tumultuous election.

Oxio-Cortez won the race against Republican candidate John Cummings, the second most-invested race in terms of the money that flowed into him in all of the House elections.

Cummings, a Catholic teacher and former police officer, managed to raise ten million dollars in a deal that was considered unlikely.

Oxio-Cortez hinted in an interview with the New York Times that she would consider, under certain conditions, a search for a more senior position, based on her rising status in the Democratic Party.

"I don't know if I will stay forever in the House of Representatives and what my next tenure will look like. I want to assess whether I will be more effective in a new position," Cortez said.

Ilhan Omar, who is considered even more radical in her anti-Israel stances than Cortez, won a landslide victory in her constituency in Minnesota, when she faced Republican candidate Lacey Johnson, who also managed to raise large sums of money for his candidacy.

Omar, a daughter of immigrants of Somali origin, previously called Israel an "apartheid state" and used an antisemitic scent metaphor when she said that "Israel has hypnotized the world to ignore bombing innocent civilians."

In August of 2019, its entry into the State of Israel was banned.
