Puchheim-Ort is a problematic village, according to an inventory in 1990.

Due to the strong population growth and the structural change in agriculture, the overall structure in the place near Germering changed.

Puchheim

- “The population has doubled and new settlements have sprung up outside.

The village center is so bobbed about and has slowly lost its identity, ”recalls Johann Aichner, who at the time was a consultant for village renewal in the local council.

From 1983 there were therefore first considerations to upgrade the place in terms of design.

Initially, however, the focus was only on the redesign of the Dorfstrasse.

However, it quickly became clear that a long-term and comprehensive solution to the problem should be sought by means of village renewal.

In 1989 the local council voted in favor.

In 1990 a preliminary investigation was carried out, which at the end of the year led to the land consolidation authorities ordering a village renewal.

The big goal was to make the place more attractive again.

It should become a sustainable and vital living space.

The first project was the construction of the new Dorfstrasse.

The substructure was replaced, new water pipes laid and a new surface applied.

Some sections were given a cobblestone pavement to slow down the traffic a bit.

Trees were planted along the road and narrow strips of green were laid out along the fences.

A sidewalk was marked with paving stones, but the wide agricultural vehicles can easily drive on it.

Construction began in 1993 and took a little over a year.

In October 1994 the completion was celebrated with a big village festival.

In the meantime, those involved got into a crisis of meaning and motivation.

“The Dorfstrasse was almost finished and we were looking for new ideas.

Movement quickly started again because people saw that it was a great thing and wanted to get involved, ”remembers Aichner.

A basic seminar for all interested parties gave a new kick-start for the progress of village renewal.

At the beginning of 1996 the board decided on the village renewal plan and the model.

This included new street lighting, a fountain on the maypole and a Kneipp facility near the fire station.

With the help of grants, private individuals redesigned their houses and properties to make them suitable for the village.

In 2002 the village renewal ended after eleven years and 60 meetings.

The public measures cost a total of 1.6 million euros.

The private owners spent an additional 1.3 million euros.

But that was not all: "The village renewal was more than just building work," says Aichner.

A working group for culture, customs and local history was established, from which today's cultural association “d'Buachhamer” emerged.

Ortler hobby artists formed the "Creative Ortlers" (today Kreos).

An illustrated book and a construction guide were created.

And so Aichner's conclusion is: “Puchheim-Ort has gained a lot in infrastructure, equipment and village quality through the village renewal.

Village renewal should be a permanent task. "
