Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Ardan, last night (Wednesday) attacked the UN members who supported a series of anti-Israel decisions on the grounds that by voting year after year, they change nothing but the perpetuation of the conflict.

The remarks were made during a discussion in the Fourth UN Committee in which a number of resolutions were put forward each year regarding UNRWA and others dealing with human rights violations committed by Israel, according to the decision-makers.

The Palestinians and countries such as Cuba, Indonesia and more are behind the 'decision package'.

"Instead of persuading the Palestinians to choose the path of negotiation and peace, these decisions only encourage them to harden their positions. Any vote in favor of the decisions is a step towards turning the UN into an irrelevant body," the ambassador said.

Arden attacked UN members' support for a UNRWA decision, saying "one of the main reasons for the UN's failure to resolve the conflict is its support for UNRWA."

In his speech, the Ambassador referred to the teaching materials taught in the Agency's schools, including messages of hatred and anti-Semitism that lead to terrorist incidents and delegitimization of the State of Israel.

"Instead of working like the UN refugee agency to integrate refugees into their countries of residence, UNRWA inflates the numbers of 'refugees' and automatically recognizes every Palestinian descendant as a refugee, even those who have already become permanent residents in other countries," Arden added.

The ambassador later referred to the decision focusing on the holy places that ignores the connection of the Jewish people to the Temple Mount and said that "the rude attempt to rewrite history will not change the fact that the connection between the Jewish people and Jerusalem is thousands of years old."

"As Minister of Internal Security, I have worked so that people of all faiths can visit the holy places in Jerusalem," Arden said.

"During my tenure, the number of Jews who visited the Temple Mount tripled. No decision passed here will stop it and no decision you make will change the connection of the Jewish people to its holiest place - the Temple Mount," he added.

As every year for about 40 years, the General Assembly is expected to adopt in the coming month a 'package' of about 20 pro-Palestinian resolutions.

Later this month, the resolutions that were put to a vote today in the Fourth Committee, along with a number of other resolutions such as the renewal of the mandate of the 'Palestine Committee' and the 'Palestine Department' at the UN Secretariat, will be put to a vote in the General Assembly plenum.
