At the end of a strategic committee of the automotive sector which was held this Friday, November 6 in the morning between ministers and professionals of the sector including the bosses of the Renault and PSA groups as well as major equipment manufacturers, the government has announced the extension of a series of vehicle purchase assistance.

The premium for the purchase of hybrid or electric vehicles is extended until June 30, 2021 at its current level.

This premium is a maximum of 7,000 euros, and was initially supposed to drop by 1,000 euros in January.

The conversion premium also remains unchanged.

It is maintained at 3000 euros for the purchase of a new thermal vehicle and at 5000 euros for an electric or plug-in hybrid.

On the other hand, diesel hybrids will be excluded from it on January 1, said the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

Concessions remain closed

Another point discussed during this meeting: the opening of concessions.

Earlier in the morning, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, the Deputy Minister in charge of Industry, said she hoped that car dealers could continue to work during the confinement.

For now, the concessions remain closed.

They only open to withdraw vehicles.

Their opening will be "

educated

", but it "

depends on much more comprehensive decisions on the health situation

," said the Minister for Industry.

The president of the Automotive Platform (PFA), which represents companies in the sector, expressed his concern.

"

If we do not quickly reopen the concessions, we must prepare to face the risk of a shutdown of the industrial apparatus and a further collapse of the market

", warned Luc Chatel in a statement.

Some factories could close at the end of 2020, he also warned, without further details.

After the shock of spring and the forecast, even before re-containment, of a market falling by 25% over the whole of 2020, the choices that will be made will weigh heavily on the industrial fabric and the employment in the heart of our territories

”, continued the president of the PFA.

In addition, the government announced a first investment in the “

Avenir Automobile 2

fund

, endowed with 525 million euros by Bpifrance, Renault and PSA.

Bpifrance entered for an amount of 8 million euros in the capital of Coretec, a company that integrates robotic production lines, with 360 employees in Ille-et-Vilaine, Calvados and in Eastern Europe.
