The General Organization for Tobacco opened today 10 centers to buy tobacco in the western countryside of Hama Governorate, with the aim of facilitating the receipt of the crop from farmers, amid expectations that the marketed quantities for this season will reach more than 7 thousand tons.

The centers in which the crop marketing committees opened the procurement process were distributed in the regions of Salhab, Tremseh, Maharda, Tal Skinn and Jorin, covering the geographical distribution of crop cultivation in the governorate.

In a statement to SANA correspondent, Eng. Ayman Karah Falah, Director of Agriculture and Scientific Research at the Foundation, stated that Hama Governorate supplies half of Syria’s tobacco crop, stressing that the institution will continue to provide all forms of support to farmers in terms of securing seeds and plastic sheets for ponds, fertilizers and diesel at the cost price in addition to the bags needed to fill and market the crop Free.

Salman Abbas, head of the Tobacco Purchase Supervisory Committee in the establishment indicated that the committees for receiving the crop in the centers were asked to provide all the facilities required for the producers to market their crops while compensating them for the costs of shipping it from the production areas or warehouses to the marketing centers for the crop. It is expected that each committee will receive between 4 and 5 tons of Tobacco, provided that its value is disbursed to its owners within a maximum period of one week.

Engineer Osama Mansour, head of the quality department in the corporation, pointed out that the harvest this year is good, whether it is Virginia or Burley, indicating that the purchase plan comes within the specifications and standards approved by the institution in terms of taking into account quality, quality and moisture content.

Tobacco farmers Ibrahim Khair Bey, Ahmed Al-Ezzo, and Ali Al-Azizi confirmed that marketing of their crops proceeded smoothly and without any hindrances, expressing their hope to increase the price of the crop to encourage farmers to go ahead with tobacco cultivation.
