Le Chambard hotel in Kaysersberg, the expert opinion of Le Figaro

2020-11-07T05:59:36.013Z

Alsace is generous with the opulence of its flowery villages, its half-timbered townhouses, the richness of its gastronomy and the diversity of its grape varieties. We tested the Alsatian house which has all its characteristics.

9/10 for the Chambard Relais & Châteaux

Le Chambard is located in the heart of the village of Kaysersberg, an 18th century residence transformed into a hotel with a two-star gourmet restaurant and a traditional Winstub.

With 33 rooms and suites, each with a different identity, but always in line with the DNA of the house, this five-star hotel has had a brilliant makeover.

Some rooms have a balcony or terraces overlooking the vineyards, other suites have a view of the castle and the village.

This proximity to the vineyards and the high gastronomy of the place make it a meeting place for experienced gourmets.

Prestigious establishment, Le Chambard has kept its atmosphere and its family spirit thanks to its owners, Olivier Nasti and his wife, who give all their energy to make this place a little gem.

9/10 The situation

At the foot of the Alsatian vineyards, a few minutes walk from the castle, this Relais & Châteaux establishment is both a gastronomic stopover and a good starting point for the wine route.

On one side the vineyard, on the other the mountain: Chambard is a digest of Alsace.

We leave the car in the hotel parking lot and from it we walk around the village on foot.

We pass in front of the witches' tower, we sit on the terrace of a café to nibble on a kouglof before indulging in a little Alsatian decor.

All the houses on the main street are of different colors and are half-timbered, a village classified among the most beautiful villages in France.

9/10 The decor

The hotel has just been remodeled this summer.

With light colors everywhere, with a few touches of raw wood and almond green, as if to remind you that in Alsace, nature is always a guest of honor.

Everything here vibrates with charming family happiness.

A breeze of freshness, a zen spirit and comfort at all times, the rooms and suites offer a refined white and pale slate decor.

On the other side of the windows, the vineyards and hillsides present an invigorating spectacle.

And to make the experience even more beautiful, the Nasti couple have imagined a thousand attentions that make the visitor literally under the spell.

Deep contemporary sofas, in velvet or leather at the reception or at the bar encourage relaxation.

Fauna, the chef's passion, is everywhere in the hotel.

10/10 The bedrooms

There are 33 suites and rooms, including 6 suites.

Here and there, carefully selected art objects and decorative pieces add a touch of soul to the house's decorative line.

We tried the “Johanna” suite No. 112 in the contemporary part of the building, a suite on the first floor with a view of the village.

No noise, even window wide open, except the chirping of the last birds before winter.

All the comforts of a five-star are there.

Firm and neat king-size bed, XXL bathroom with light slate tiles with Jacuzzi tub and Italian shower.

Good point also for bathrobes and towels, wide and creamy.

In the living room area, the tiled floor of a wood stove seems to be there to recall the origin of heating in Alsace.

White curtains add extra light, and bleached oak blocks double as a coffee table.

Quite charming.

9/10 The service, the facilities

Upon arrival, the “golden keys” concierges go out of their way for the guests and are there for any getaway in the region.

All residents have access to the spa and the swimming pool with their pass, included in the price of the room.

A 200 m² spa, with an infinity pool, sauna, jacuzzi, hammam and treatment rooms are the wellness alternative of the house, with a well-stocked treatment menu whose brand is local and organic .

Le Chambard also makes it a point of honor to host seminars and workshops with rare attention.

10/10 At the table and at the bar

Two restaurants, one of which has been awarded two Michelin stars: La Table d'Olivier Nasti ** where we discover the talent of the chef-owner.

45 seats for a high gastronomy where the latter, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, and his team, develop a cuisine of expressions, both modern and traditional, inspired by the contrasts of Alsace.

The gourmet table can be divided into two rooms: one very contemporary and the second, near the bar, where regulars like to meet.

Large round tables covered with just a candle holder and an animal sculpture in painted wood.

On the Féra du Léman plate, Arctic char, Rhine eel, goose foie gras, nothing but Alsatian happiness, sparkling and perfect cuisine.

Another place with a different atmosphere, a typically Alsatian Winstub, offers an alternative to a gourmet restaurant, here typically an inn.

Wood everywhere, chairs with pierced hearts, red and white fabrics and from the ceiling fall a string of fabric hearts.

On the plate, the best sauerkraut, incredibly tasty with its “angel hair” cabbage and its 5 kinds of sausages, without forgetting the seafood sauerkraut, foie gras but also, on the cheese side, from munster to bargkass to accompany a riesling with kirsch ...

At the bar, very nice discoveries of regional wine as well as tasty regional fruit juices.

Olivier and Patricia Nasti have joined forces with sommelier Jean-Baptiste Klein to develop a fine, coherent and plural selection.

9/10 The value for money

From € 290 for the first price for a classic double room to € 410 for the “Madame” suite.

A very interesting value for money for this five-star hotel with family charm.

At the gourmet restaurant: menus € 90, € 158 and € 220, plus menu.

At the Winstub, menus € 28 and € 34 plus card.
