Stuttgart - Despite the tight
corona measures
, the
OB election can
take place
in Stuttgart
.
On Saturday, the Baden-Württemberg Administrative Court in Mannheim rejected complaints against a corresponding order from the state capital.
The week-long
election campaign
will come to an end this Sunday, because the residents of
Stuttgart
have been able to
elect
a new
mayor
since the morning hours
.
A
result
should it then in the evening to
19:30
enter.
However, it is not yet entirely clear whether a new mayor will be determined.
In most cases, applicants in elections in which the incumbent is no longer a candidate have a hard time gaining an absolute majority of the votes at the first attempt.
As a reminder: Fritz Kuhn (Greens), who held the office of Mayor of Stuttgart for eight years, will not stand for election this time.
OB election in Stuttgart: The Greens are under the greatest pressure
The 14 successor candidates, including the two favorites
Frank Nopper (CDU)
and
Veronika Kienzle
from the
Greens
, are fighting for
an absolute majority
today
.
If none of the applicants succeed,
a second election will take
place on
November 29th
- a simple majority of the votes will then decide on the new
mayor
.
The greatest pressure is
probably on the
Greens
before the
OB election
.
After all, the Greens make up the largest parliamentary group in the local council, all four direct mandates for the state parliament went to the Greens in Stuttgart and the government president is also a member of the party.
It is therefore expected that the Greens will
be able to defend
the
top
post in the town hall
.
Any other outcome could be interpreted as a bad sign for the
upcoming
state election
in
spring 2021
.
