Given the emergency due to the torrential rains and floods that have hit the state of Tabasco in southern Mexico in recent weeks, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador decided to cancel a tour of Nayarit and Sinaloa in order to address the situation in the affected state.

So far five people have died in the floods.

Macuspana, the president's hometown, is the most affected municipality.

Both the National Guard, the Navy and the Army implement emergency plans for natural disasters.

López Obrador assured that the priority is to support the victims and asked citizens to attend the shelters and stay in them.

After evaluating the situation, he confirmed that on Tuesday he will meet with the governors of Chiapas and Tabasco, in addition to the director of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the secretary of National Defense, the secretary of the Navy, head of the Ministry of Urban Development , and the Secretary of Welfare.

The goal is to find solutions to dredge the rivers that are the main cause of flooding in the region.
