Eleven people were killed in an alleged attack by the Islamic State (IS) jihadist militia in Iraq.
As the AFP news agency reports in relation to security circles and rescue workers, IS fighters attacked a security force vantage point near Baghdad on Sunday evening.
According to reports from AFP and Reuters, five members of the security forces and six residents rushed to help were killed and eight other people were injured.
Reuters has not yet named the author of the attack.
The IS itself did not initially take responsibility for the attack either.
Attack not far from the airport
According to the AFP, the attackers pelted the observation point not far from the airport in Radouanija with grenades and also shot at the position of a paramilitary unit that is integrated into the government forces.
IS had captured around a third of Iraqi territory in 2014, but was almost completely pushed back by a US-led military coalition in the years that followed.
In 2017 the Iraqi government proclaimed "victory" over ISIS.
This year the international military coalition significantly reduced its presence in Iraq.
However, IS still has underground cells that carry out attacks.
The militia is particularly strong in the rural areas around Baghdad, where the village of Radouanija is also located.
Attacks by IS with so many victims have become rare.
