The city of Miesbach has also been offering tree burials at its forest cemetery for over a year.

An offer that is well received.

Miesbach

- When Michael Lechner campaigned at the beginning of 2019 to make so-called tree burials possible in the Miesbach forest cemetery, he apparently discovered a niche.

"Some people approached me and thanked me for the fact that there is now something like this in Miesbach," reports the city council, who is responsible for the green areas of the district town.

"It's nice that it is so well received and used well."

This is also confirmed by Sandra Bauer, who is responsible for the cemetery system at the Miesbach city administration.

"The tree burial is very well received," she says when our newspaper asked.

So far, 13 tree burials have been carried out - more are possible.

"There is still enough available."

The area for the tree burials is located in the rear part of the cemetery, surrounded by a beautifully grown oak with a mighty trunk.

Next to it is a stone slab with two wrought iron bars.

One is a place for candles, the other holds a round plate with nameplates of those buried here - a voluntary decision.

Because if you wish, you can also bury the urn anonymously here.

A solution that Lechner doesn't exactly like.

“Personally, I think it's nicer when the name boards are right on the tree.

The bark of the oak can withstand this without being damaged. ”But it is important that the offer is available at all.

According to Bauer, there are no reservations, "but there are always citizens who find out about the various burial options during their lifetime and are sometimes happy that tree burials are possible at the Miesbach cemetery." For ten years the place costs 540 euros.

For Lechner, it is quite understandable that tree burials are enjoying increasing interest.

“This is a general development that people long for closeness to nature,” states the forester.

In addition, this form of burial is a good solution in the event that the relatives do not live on site.

In this way, expensive grave maintenance can be avoided.

"And last but not least, it is a nice place here in Miesbach to meet and to commemorate someone buried here."
