A Lidl customer observes a man buying a hamster and goes up to the ceiling when he sees it.
The discounter reacts to the angry appeal.
Osnabrück - The second corona wave is here and with it the panic in Germany's supermarkets again: More and more people are
buying hamsters
.
The increasing number of infections with the coronavirus (* BW24 reported) are causing uncertainty.
Hamster buyers are increasingly stocking up on non-perishable foods such as flour, pasta or hygiene articles.
The number of hamster purchases * is also increasing in Baden-Württemberg.
A Lidl customer from Osnabrück is enraged by an observation in his local discounter.
"I think anti-social": Lidl customer appalled by hamster buyers
Because what he
sees
in a
Lidl
branch
is completely incomprehensible to him: a man calmly pushes his shopping cart through the rows of supermarkets.
When he arrives at the cash register, he puts loads of
wheat flour
on the belt.
Flour is one of the products that has been
particularly hard hit
by
hamster purchases
in the
Covid-19 pandemic
.
The cashier seems to accept this without comment.
The result is an
empty flour shelf
.
In a
Facebook appeal
to the
discount giant
, the customer writes: "I personally think that is anti-social".
And indicates the
hamster purchase
.
Lidl
should train its employees to only sell everyday groceries, such as flour, in “commercial quantities”.
He also doubts that it is a
commercial customer
, if it had been, the man would have made his flour purchases in a special shop, he argues.
Finally, he appeals to
Lidl
: "Please watch out for something like this in the future, because we only had this a few months ago".
Lidl customer: "The dog is buried there"
Because it wasn't until the spring of this year, at the beginning of the corona pandemic *, that many
hamster buyers
had
partly cleared
the shelves in German
supermarkets and discounters
.
The
dealers
reacted with
restrictions
on the quantities sold per household.
The
Lidl customer
fears that the situation will now
repeat
itself
.
Lidl
leaves with his
response
is not long in coming: "We understand your concerns, it is important for you to know: We are working day and night to ensure the supply for you in our 3,200 stores throughout Germany.
Our branches receive new supplies every day, so there is no need to buy much more than usual ”.
However,
Lidl's
reaction
to the
hamster purchase
does not satisfy
the
customer
at all.
He was aware that there would be enough food “if everyone were to shop normally”.
But this is exactly where the dog is buried.
“If someone starts buying masses of flour etc. again, everyone will soon do it.
The end of the story (is) that the logisticians can't keep up ”.
