Charlie Dalin (Apivia), aboard a latest generation boat, took the lead in the Vendée Globe on Wednesday evening, followed by Welshman Alex Thomson (Hugo Boss) at 10.6 miles, also at the helm of a sailboat " steering wheel ”.

This is the first time since the start of the solo round-the-world non-stop race on Sunday that the latest generation monohulls have found themselves at the top of the fleet of 33 boats.

Kevin Escoffier (PRB) is third at 17.2 miles followed closely by Benjamin Dutreux (OMIA-Water Family).

Dalin, 36, is taking part in the Vendée Globe for the first time, while Thomson is in his 5th participation.

Both browsers are among the big favorites.
