The municipal secretary of Public Security of the Benito Juárez municipality, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Eduardo Santamaría, was removed from office for his alleged responsibility in the incidents that occurred during a protest for a femicide on Monday in La night.

According to the municipal president, Mara Lezama, Santamaría committed an "act of abuse of authority" in the demonstration that, in her own words, was repressed "with violence by the state police."

Derived from the act of abuse of authority perpetrated by the Quintana Roo Police in Benito Juárez, I have given the order that Inspector Eduardo Santamaría be removed from his post immediately.

CNN has not been able to establish contact with Eduardo Santamaría, and so far it is unknown if he has legal advice.

The governor of Quintana Roo Carlos Joaquín González spoke in a video on social networks.

He said that, according to the information he had at the time, Santamaría “gave the instruction to shoot into the air to disperse the protesters who were trying to invade the offices of the municipal presidency, in order to protect the integrity of the public servants who worked there ».

The president said that "several more municipal policemen" participated in this event.

González also asked Lezama to dismiss the agents involved "while the investigations are carried out."

The governor also said that he asked the Secretary of Public Security of Quintana Roo, Alberto Capella, that the police not attack the protesters during the protests on Monday.

Likewise, that the investigations will confirm whether Capella issued the same instruction to Santamaría.

Capella denied on Twitter Monday that state police participated in the crackdown.

This was stated earlier by Lezama in a video posted on his social networks.

It also reported that "an investigation was opened in the Public Ministry" for the events.

What the demonstrations asked

According to the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico, two journalists were shot and wounded by these events.

The State Prosecutor's Office reported that there are no detainees for these demonstrations, which occurred in several cities of the state.

The Ministry of the Interior of Mexico demanded that the Quintana Roo authorities investigate "to its last consequences" the "repression and armed aggression" that occurred on Monday night.

The protest sought that the authorities did not let the 20-year-old feminicide of Blanca Alejandrina Lorenzana Alvarado go unpunished.

The woman's body was found Sunday night in Cancun.

The young woman was seen for the last time on Saturday, the same day that a protocol for her location was activated.

This Tuesday, various local and international organizations condemned what happened.

In that sense, they ask the Mexican government for a thorough investigation, not only of the femicide of Lorenzana Alvarado, but of the incidents on Monday night.
