Protests and demonstrations continued in the Turkish part of Cyprus, rejecting the interference of the Turkish regime authorities in the internal affairs of the divided island and denouncing the visit that the president of the regime, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will pay next Sunday to Northern Cyprus.

Cypriot media sources quoted Goulsen Archin, spokesman for the Movement for Democracy and Will that organized the demonstration in the northern part of Nicosia, as saying that the Turkish regime could not rule northern Cyprus from Ankara, expressing its refusal to visit Erdogan to the island.

The same sources suggested that the protests that started yesterday are expected to increase amid calls to protest against the interference of the Turkish regime authorities in the island's internal affairs and to reject Erdogan's visit.

The demonstrators chanted slogans against the policy pursued by the Turkish regime, including .. "No intervention, but free will" and "In Cyprus, the decision is for the Cypriots."

In turn, the "Cypress Mail" news site stated that the local authorities in the city of Famagusta in the northern part of the island called for a rally at noon next Sunday at the Derenya crossing, coinciding with Erdogan's visit to protest against Ankara's unacceptable and provocative actions in Famagusta.

The Famagusta Municipal Council condemned, in a statement, “the new, unacceptable provocations from Turkey and its agents in the North which were at the expense of Famagusta and Cyprus as a whole”.

Famagusta residents denounced on social media the planned visit by Erdogan, commenting: “You do not have the right to be in Famagusta, which is our land that our fathers and grandfathers built centuries ago and it belongs to our children and grandchildren and it is not yours, Erdogan, nor the investors from Turkey.

"You have no right to come and enjoy our sadness, steal our homes and destroy our lives .. it is not your country .. the war took it at gunpoint."

They also mentioned in their leaflets: “Stay away from Cyprus from southern and northern Cypriots and respect human rights ... the two sides can work together to rebuild a common future.”

The Turkish army has occupied the northern part of Cyprus since 1974 when it invaded the north of the island and established / the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus - an entity that only Ankara recognizes.
