With the favorable opinion of the government, the deputies adopted an amendment to Christophe Jerretie's (MoDem) 2021 draft budget, similar to amendments from other political groups, allowing the removal of a ceiling that applied.

The tourist tax can thus be reduced from 2.30 to 4.10 euros at the most, ie the same ceiling as for palaces.

It is a question of repairing an

"inequity"

with the hotels and also to be at the level of other European capitals, supported the general rapporteur Laurent Saint-Martin (LREM).

Pierre-Yves Bournazel (Agir), also adviser to Paris, also supported the amendment,

"fair, relevant and very pragmatic".

The measure corresponds to a

"legitimate request"

from the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo (PS), he added.

The local authorities set the level of the tourist tax, between 1% and 5% of the price excluding tax of the night per person.

According to the latest figures known, some 28,000 cities in France collected 58 million euros in tourist tax on tourist rentals in 2019 via the Airbnb platform, more than double the amount of the previous year, the collection being now automated. .

Other tax measures adopted

The National Assembly must complete the first reading of the 2021 budget bill at the end of the week, before its solemn global vote on Tuesday and its passage before the Senate as of Thursday.

Among the other very diverse amendments adopted Thursday, the deputies extended various tax measures including the benefit of the increased rate of reduction of income tax for the subscription to the capital of SMEs (IR-PME), for one year.

The tax credit for the equipment expenses of the main home in favor of the elderly or disabled has been extended until the end of 2023. Finally, the Assembly has abolished the funeral tax, which relates to burials or cremations, and is levied by some 700 municipalities for a product of 5 million euros.

It is a

geographically

“unfair”

tax

, argued the general rapporteur, touting

“a measure for families”

.
