Tegel has been history since the weekend, the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) has started operations.

And from now on, a company from Erdinger Moos will take care of that - AeroGround, the ground handler of Flughafen München GmbH (FMG).

Airport / Berlin - For this purpose, it has founded its own subsidiary, AeroGround Berlin GmbH.

In the capital, she is responsible for ground handling services, i.e. for loading luggage and providing machines.

"By winning the Lufthansa Group and Eurowings as new customers at the capital's airport, AeroGround can significantly expand its market position," said an FMG spokesman.

With the airport move, AeroGround Berlin will become “the market leader in the field of ground handling services at Berlin Airport”.

The volume includes up to 30,000 flight movements annually, of course only after the corona pandemic.

Because currently the number of flights is known to be significantly lower.

Managing Director Simon Batt-Nauerz is full of energy: “We are all looking forward to working with the Lufthansa Group, Eurowings and our other long-term airline partners at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport, which has now opened, and together with the airport company to make BER a successful capital airport close."

The long-term handling agreement with Deutsche Lufthansa includes the subsidiaries Swiss, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines.

AeroGround Berlin's range of services includes aircraft and baggage handling on the apron, fresh water and toilet service, apron bus transport for passengers and crews as well as baggage tracing.

Another centerpiece is the entire passenger handling, including check-in and maintenance of the gates.

In addition to the around 8,000 to 10,000 annual passenger flights operated by Eurowings, AeroGround also handles night airmail flights.

The commitment on Brandenburg soil is not entirely new for FMG.

Originally, FMG was supposed to advise BER on the move and organize the trial run.

But years of delay resulted in a new tender.

Nevertheless, the relocation of a total of almost 200 companies also bears a Munich signature: FMG provided support with the transfer.
