He had been on the run since November 2019 when he escaped Operation Magma.

A year later, the escape of Domenico Bellocco, a leading exponent of the homonymous mafia family of Rosarno, current regent of the clan, ended.

Coordinated by the Reggio prosecutor Giovanni Bombardieri and by the adjunct Gaetano Paci, the Goa financiers and the "Cacciatori di Calabria" carabinieri arrested him in a farmhouse in Mongiana, in the province of Vibo Valentia.

Wanted for a mafia and drug trafficking association, the 44-year-old fugitive had false documents at the time of his arrest.

His capture was achieved because, as part of the "Three crosses" operation, the Gico financiers gathered this afternoon useful elements for locating the wanted person.

Elements that converged the results of specific investigative activities conducted by the investigative unit of the Carabinieri of Reggio Calabria.

Bellocco had escaped the precautionary custody order issued against him by the investigating judge Antonino Foti at the request of the district anti-mafia Directorate.

It was an investigation that allowed the prosecutors to crush the Bellocco clan and its joints operating in central and northern Italy.

The investigation started with the seizure, which took place in 2016, of almost 400 kilos of cocaine that had been thrown into the sea by the crew of a motor ship on board which there was a subject that the investigations found to be in contact with a tied man to the clans of Rosarno whose promoter, according to the prosecutors, was Domenico Bellocco.

According to the investigation, the fugitive coordinated the import operations of large quantities of narcotic substances which arrived in Italy through the port of Gioia Tauro.

Against Bellocco, there are also the declarations of the repentant Salvatore Albanese and Giuseppe Tirintino.

The two collaborators of justice indicate him as one of the subjects who received the investiture as regent of the clan from his uncle leader Umberto Bellocco.

Now he has been taken to the Vibo Valentia prison.
