The Canadian police today announced a case of hostage-taking in the southeastern city of Montreal.

The Canadian "CBC" network quoted the police as saying that their members "are dealing with a hostage situation in a building on Saint Laurent Boulevard in the Mile End neighborhood," asking the residents "to avoid the surrounding area."

There were no immediate reports of any casualties or injuries resulting from the hostage-taking or information on the identity of their captors.
